New boyfriend, new job. I hardly have time to sleep in my own bed. But you know what? The rewards are well worth the minor hassles of forgetting my toothbrush at home or not having time to eat all the food in my fridge before it expires. It’s a bit of an adventure to share space with your significant other but also retain the flexibility and privacy of having your own haven when you need it.
I managed some cooking this week in amidst regularly being on the go.
* a perfect Red Potato & Egg Salad with baby spinach, red peppers, garlic, green onions, copious amounts of dill and a rich balsamic vinegar;

* an attention-grabbing Chilled Beet & Avocado Cream Soup;

* and a yummy Pesto Pasta Salad with Spicy Italian Sausage that I ate so fast I forgot to take a picture!
I devoured the 1st and 3rd options with delight but the 2nd one struck me as slightly off. Sometimes my own creativity surprises … and scares… me.
David and I put together a scrumptious spinach lasagne late last night, accompanied with an unexpectedly romantic table dinner with candles and a light, fruity Beaujolais (one of my favourites) that was a nice complement to the dish. I love that he is a regular wine drinker like me and makes a special effort to pair up the proper wine with food, though considering he’s a quintessential Virgo, conscientious and meticulous in most other areas of his life, this should come as no surprise
He’s an earnest writer/musician, photographer, voracious reader of classic English lit. With the added bonus that he is apolitical! He reads the news but isn’t committed or interested in the machinations of government—definitely A-okay with me! He also speaks fabulous Spanish and French (obviously) and I’m a bit scared he may begin speaking better English than me. I better stay on my toes!
Last night’s most swoon-worthy moment was when I told David that I was invited to attend my first meeting with the full-time/term staff. David’s voice became all guttural and he said, “Ohhhh…” As the full implication of my words set in. Nothing is official yet but my manager would not have invited me if she didn’t think my appt would go through. “I’m so proud of you!” And proceeded to cover my face with kisses.
Officially, I will find out about my new position on July 7. Two days after all my college acceptances expire. So I will have to accept one offer to a program (either Scriptwriting or ESL, though I’m leaning toward the former) and then cancel my registration if I am confirmed for the position. Then possibly reapply as a part-time student, if I still decide to branch out and upgrade my education.
As for the madness that was today, the meeting itself went well enough; we all got caught up on some huge changes happening with our department and levels of management. There was so much new, confidential information that I came out of the boardroom feeling like an insider trader. The gossip mill in my unit is so fierce that I honestly believe we could provide Ontario with half its provincial energy needs!
Tomorrow is St-Jean Baptiste Day in Quebec so we get the holiday Monday off—can’t beat two long weekends in a row! David and I are spending the weekend together so I hope the weather holds out; otherwise we’ll be forced to spend the day lounging around in bed
Mmm…everything looks so delicious!! I think I’d even settle for eating the plate that the pasta was on
Enjoy your long weekend..I know I will
Sounds like you’re doing fabulous! SO exciting to hear how happy you are, and how wonderfully things are going for your!
Hope you enjoyed!
Lounging in bed is often the best way to spend a weekend.
